At the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, W.E. Sullivan,
owner of the Eli Bridge Company in this town, was fascinated by the original
ferris wheel. His first “Big Eli” made its debut in Jacksonville’s Central Park
in 1900. This family-owned
business still makes carnival rides over a hundred years later.
